ANNOUNCEMENT
Deep-Tech Company, iSize Technologies, Graduates from Creative Destruction Lab Inaugural AI Cohort in UK at University of Oxford’s Saïd Business School
London, 1 May 2020: iSize Technologies, the London-based deep-tech company specializing in deep learning for video delivery, announced their graduation from the 2019/2020 Creative Destruction Lab (CDL) AI program at the University of Oxford’s Saïd Business School. iSize has developed a ‘pre-coder’ using artificial intelligence for perceptual optimisation of video content prior to subsequent encoding. Its flagship product, BitSave, is a fully codec independent software solution that requires no additional changes to existing infrastructure or client device
BitSave enhances details of the areas of each frame that affect the perceptual quality score of the content after encoding and attenuates details that are not important. This is designed to optimally balance perceptual quality against encoding bitrate and enable companies streaming videos to unlock substantial cost savings and significantly reduce their environmental impact of video streaming.
After being selected for the program from 270 applicant companies in November 2019, iSize was one of just 26 Artificial Intelligence (AI) companies in the inaugural cohort at CDL-Oxford and one of the 10 who successfully graduated.
Sergio Grce, CEO of iSize said “The last 6 months has been a great experience for us and we are grateful for all the advice and support we have received from leading tech experts, successful entrepreneurs and academics from the CDL network.”
After completing the CDL program, iSize now has its sights set on helping the giants of video streaming meet the challenges of an ever-increasing demand for high-quality video streaming; reducing bitrates while simultaneously improving the visual quality of streaming video.
Grce continues, “Video is estimated to take up 82% of internet traffic by 2022. By helping companies save on average 30% of the size of the video files required, we could be helping to reduce internet traffic – and therefore the power consumption of data centres – by almost a quarter. We look forward to working with the mentors, investors and network we connected with at CDL to bring iSize to the global entertainment and tech stage so we can make a real difference.”

About the Creative Destruction Lab
Creative Destruction Lab (CDL) is a nonprofit organization that delivers an objectives-based program for massively scalable, seed-stage, science- and technology-based companies. Its nine-month program allows founders to learn from experienced entrepreneurs, increasing their likelihood of success. Founded in 2012 by Professor Ajay Agrawal at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management, the program has expanded to eight sites across four countries: Oxford (Saïd Business School, University of Oxford), Paris (HEC Paris), Atlanta (Scheller College of Business, Georgia Institute of Technology), Vancouver (Sauder School of Business, University of British Columbia), Montreal (HEC Montréal), Calgary (Haskayne School of Business, University of Calgary), and Halifax (Rowe School of Business, Dalhousie University). Since its inception, companies that have participated in the CDL program have created more than $5.9 billion (CAD) in equity value. CDL alumni include North (Waterloo), Atomwise (San Francisco), Kyndi (Palo Alto), Xanadu (Toronto), BenchSci (Toronto), Kheiron Medical (London), and Roadbotics (Pittsburgh).
